The city of Jospeh!

Hi Landon and Mason!

I am writing you currently from a hotel in Kansas City, MO.  We have spent the last week in Nauvoo, IL with Grandpa, Grandma and the Findlays.  Monday night we fly back to SLC so today we have a little bit of time and are going to go see Liberty jail and Independence Missouri which are very close to Kansas City.  Nauvoo is a 4 1/2 hour drive from Nauvoo.

We had a nice week in Nauvoo.  We certainly missed you both and thought about you often.  Someday we look forward to bringing you there as well.  Here are a few pictures of our time in Nauvoo.

The Temple!
We were able to go to the baptisty while Grandma and Grandpa were there being the shift cordinators.  And the next day we were also able to go as adults and do an endowment session while Grandpa and Grandma officated.  The Nauvoo temple is beautiful and very unique compared to temples in Utah. There is also a very special spirit there as you realize as you realize how the saints built the temple and then had to leave it right as it was completed.

Carthage Jail
We spent one morning at Carthage Jail.  I remember visiting this place inparticularly when I was a child.  It's a somber place as you remember the sad day 170 years ago.

Visiting the sites!
It was fun to visit many of the homes and buisnesses of Nauvoo.  Jacob got ask to help with the demonistrations a lot.

Heber C Kimballs home

The Mansion house of Emma and Joseph (currently owned by the community of Christ)

Wagon and Carriage Rides!

We enjoyed two rides around Nauvoo.  Gracie loved the horses and it was a good way to see everything cause it was sooo hot and humid.

Pagents and Entertainment!

We went to the British pageant and the Nauvoo pageant.  So fun to see the pageant that Mason was a part of last year.

Grandpa and Grandmpa are in the missionary crowd in the group on the right.

This was a show where they called up a few audience members.  Do you recognize the man in the red plaid shirt?  We kept running into him all over Nauvoo and even yesterday in Far West.  We visited with him as well, he's a nice man not like the person he plays in the temple movie.  (Satan)

Gracie was very cute as she participated in a parade that ended up on stage before a show.

Meeting Joseph and Emma (Nauvoo kind of reminded us of Disneyland, Gracie loved meeting all the pioneer women, she called them princesses)

The Entertainment!
We also loved all the entertainment throughout Nauvoo.  The Brass band, the performing missionaries, a few plays, and the bagpipe band to name a few.

Country Fair!
Every night before the pageants Nauvoo has a fun country fair.  This was the kids favorite thing to do.  We went each night.  They had games, activities and dancing.

Our Cabin!
We stayed in this little cabin while in Nauvoo.  It was cute and cozy and a fun little fact we discovered while staying there and reading of it's history was that it was once lived in by an ancestor of ours.  Grandma Nielsens' Grandpa lived in this cabin for a time.

Gracie got the whole pioneer experience bathing in the kitchen sink.  She loved it!

The Mississippi River!

Sorry for lots of pictures this week.  We want to share them with you as well as make documention.  We hope you enjoyed them.  We love and miss you very much!
