Conference Weekend

Hi Landon and Mason,

How was conference for you in Chile and Germany?  Did you have to go to a church to watch it?  I imagine in Germany you even had to watch it the next day.   It was a wonderful conference.  The talks were wonderful as was the choir.  One talk that really reminded me of both of you was President Eyring Sunday morning.  He used the Joseph Smith quote that Mason shared a little while back and also a scripture that Landon shared about being on your right and on your left.  Loved how he talked about what a blessing it is to be of service to other, and how serving others helps ourselves with our own trials.

A few things going on at home are:

Gracie found this crown that Lydia wore at Auburn's girls camp this summer and she she wears it all the time.  She says "Look I'm a Princess".  We didn't know she knew about princesses, but I guess she does, and better yet she knows she is one.  One night she even slept with it on.

Jacob is really into High School Musical.  He puts on some of his favorite songs from the movies on YouTube and dances hard to them.   He says they are the best movies ever made.  I think you guys were in 5th grade too when they were really popular, so it brings back lots of memories of the two of you dancing to them too 😉

So the Utah State game was fun, cause we WON!!!  USU 40 BYU 26
Remember how the Cooks get us every year?  Finally this year we were prepared!

First we got them some Aggies Ice Cream (I drove to a cheese store in Heber Valley that sells Aggies Ice Cream)  With the ice cream we even printed off an article on KSL that gives the result of a survey saying that Aggies Ice Cream beats out BYU creamery.  I like both, but we had fun with this little gift.  Jacob left it on their doorstep and then rang their doorbell and ran.

Later that night Dad was in the garage and looked outside and saw the Cooks scouting out our house.  He knew they were going to get us, so he came in and we turned off all our lights so they thought we had gone to bed.  I fell asleep and Dad did for a little bit but woke up at midnight to find all this in our yard.  (Notice the door sign, they represented your countries.)

Without hesitation and after taking pictures of it all so I could see it.  Dad cleaned it up and wrapped it around this wooden "A" he had made from the wood they left at our house last year.  (After talking to them we know our yard was only decorated for maybe 10 minutes)

They didn't see the "A" till the morning

The next day we got this book (from Amazon from the Cooks) and the parking sign in our yard again. Since at that time the Aggies had won we returned it with the "handicap" over the mascot.

It was all in good fun.  We really don't love this back and forth stuff but we were glad we were ready.  We understand that you both may or may not got to BYU or USU so like I said it was just fun.  I told Dad I am kind staring to like BYU (just not when they play USU though) We had fun watching Mason's companion's brother have some significant plays.  But when the game was over we celebrated with some of our own Aggie Ice Cream.

On Saturday between sessions we went on a hike in Whiting canyon. The leaves are changing colors and the weather is definitely cooling down.  It was a pretty hike we just had to convince Grace that she likes to hike in the back pack.  She wants to go on her own, which makes it a slow hike.

After the last session and before Dad went to the Priesthood session we checked out this new German restaurant in Orem.   It's actually in the University Mall food court, but it was worth it.  It's owned by two younger couples that are from Germany.  And they serve Doners and Bratwurst.   It has gotten really great reviews saying it's very authentic German food.

We loved seeing "Ulm" on the sign at the counter!

We all got the Original Doner Kebab (except Lydia got her's on the fries).  They were yummy.

As we were leaving Jacob asked them if they sell Kinder chocolate and they didn't but they gave him one that they did have behind the counter.  He's a fan of the chocolate!

We have sure enjoyed learning about Chilean and German food and it's fun that we have two little places to give us a little taste of it close to home.  From what we can tell both missions have great food!!

The end of this next week the Hatches are coming to Utah.  They are going to stay with us.  Caleb goes into the MTC on the 11th.  They are coming the weekend before to go to the BYU/Boise State game.  Tara told me Caleb is having a hard time wanting to go to the game cause BYU hasn't done so well this year, but they are still going.  Since they haven't  done so well, it's making it easier for him to go on his mission during the middle of the season.

We love you!
We miss you!
We pray for you!
We believe in you!
We hold you close to our hearts always!
